Adopt A Preserve- Making Strides and Preserving Access

News September 4, 2025

From trail maintenance and erosion control at Wilson Springs to habitat restoration at Flint Creek and Betty Hinshaw Bird Sanctuary, our Adopt-A-Preserve supporters are helping keep public access open and wildlife thriving on our preserves. So far, supporters from around the region have contributed more than $24,000 to the program in its first two years,

“We’re incredibly thankful for our community’s support of our public access preserves and for supporting the Adopt-A-Preserve program,” said Marson Nance, NWALT’s Philanthropy Director and former Director of Stewardship. “On average, it costs NWALT around $40,000 a year to keep our preserves managed. Community support is key to maintaining safe and accessible access to these properties which offer unique experiences for all lovers of the outdoors.”

Adopt-A-Preserve is an easy way for individuals and businesses to get involved in local community conservation. Adopting a preserve doesn’t require physical maintenance—just a commitment to conservation. Your contribution directly supports trail upkeep, invasive species removal, habitat restoration, and educational programming. It’s a meaningful way to give back to the land that gives so much to our community.
