Cheers to Grady Spann: A Legacy Worth Celebrating

Big news for the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust family- Grady Spann is retiring as our CEO and Executive Director. And while we’re definitely going to miss him, we’re also taking a moment to celebrate everything he’s helped make possible.

Because wow… what a run.

A Whole Lot of Good Work

During his time leading the Land Trust, Grady helped turn big ideas into real, lasting impact across Northwest Arkansas. Here are just a few highlights from his tenure:

  • 20 properties permanently protected, adding 3,090 acres of conserved land
  • Protection of the Big Spring in Springtown, keeping this incredible natural resource safe for the future
  • Opening the greenway and trails at Lake Frances Preserve- a favorite spot for getting outside and connecting with nature
  • Permanent protection of Lincoln Lake, preserving a beloved recreational and ecological treasure
  • Launching restoration work and the Betty Hinshaw Bird Sanctuary, creating stronger habitat for wildlife
  • Conserving 725 acres at the headwaters of the White River, helping protect clean water for generations

Not too shabby, right?

Each of these wins represents partnerships built, trust earned, and a whole lot of dedication to doing conservation the right way.

More Than Acres

If you’ve ever met Grady, you know this work has always been about more than just land. It’s about people- neighbors, families, volunteers, and supporters coming together to protect the places we all care about.

Grady brought a steady, thoughtful approach to leadership, along with a genuine passion for connecting folks to the “why” behind conservation. Whether he was meeting with landowners, chatting with supporters, or out on the trail, he helped grow a community that truly values stewardship.

Looking Ahead (and Smiling Back)

Thanks to Grady’s leadership, the Land Trust is in a strong place for the future. His legacy will carry this work forward for years to come, and you’ll see his impact every time you visit a protected property, walk a trail, or enjoy a quiet moment outdoors.

One Big Thank You

Grady, we can’t thank you enough for your vision, your leadership, and your heart for this work. Northwest Arkansas is better because of you, and we’re so grateful!
