Mowry 30-acre Property Permanently Protected in Washington County

News March 27, 2026

The Northwest Arkansas Land Trust is proud to announce the permanent protection of the 30‑acre Mowry Property in Washington County through a donated conservation easement. Located near Highway 412 along Stone Road, this property represents an important conservation win in an area experiencing increasing development pressure.

The Mowry Property lies within the War Eagle watershed and includes more than 1,100 feet of a recognized stream, along with ponds, natural springs, forested ridgelines, and bottomland hardwoods. The land also contains caves and other karst features, making it especially important for protecting water quality and sensitive wildlife habitat.

Because the property sits within the Beaver Lake source water protection area, its conservation directly benefits communities across Northwest Arkansas that rely on Beaver Lake for clean drinking water. Protecting forested riparian corridors and steep slopes helps reduce erosion, filter runoff, and keep waterways healthy.

"Thank you NWA Land Trust.  From today forward our beautiful 30 acres will be forever protected by this easement.  I can sleep soundly knowing that this land will never be divided or developed."

The property provides valuable habitat for a variety of wildlife, including potential habitat for several federally listed bat species, and contributes to the scenic character of the surrounding rural landscape. Its protection aligns with regional conservation priorities, including the Beaver Lake Watershed Protection Strategy and the Land Trust’s Strategic Land Conservation Plan.

Stewardship funding has been secured through the Beaver Water District to ensure the Mowry Property is monitored and cared for in perpetuity. With this project, the Land Trust continues its commitment to protecting land that safeguards water, wildlife, and quality of life for generations to come.
